I’ve got my Wilson 2 assembled and working better than my last printer already.
I’m very happy with it - particularly considering the cost. It is obvious that a lot of time went into every aspect the design. I’m passed the initial build/tuning of the hardware and it’s time to get my slicing dialed in.
My old printer was crap design and crap parts - and only did PLA(no heated bed)....so I’m starting fresh with the Wilson 2. My experience with the old printer is all I have to go on and I don’t think my experience there should be relied on
Having said that - I’ve always used Cura and Slic3r from within Repetier and had much better prints using Slic3er. The Slic3r prints were generally 20-30% longer but the quality was much better than Cura so I rarely used Cura.
I see someone here asked about Slic3r settings and someone posted screen shots from Cura. I did a print based on the Cura settings and it produced similar results to my last experience with the old printer. Part of it may be my fault - My screens within the Repetier are a little different and use different wording in places so I am not confident I’m getting all the settings involved correct. I’m also using PLA and ABS spools that are were still factory sealed till this week but they are prolly six months old...So I can’t be 100% sure the filament might not be part of the problem. To further complicate things, the thermistor currently installed in my Wilson isn’t the one that came in it and when in my other printer I consistently had to specify I higher than recommended temp to get good prints. I’ve got a new modular thermistor on the way since I’m going to be swapping out hotends/extruders reasonably often.
I’m assuming the nice printed pieces that came with my kit were sliced w/Cura so obviously I’ve missed something
Is anyone willing to post their actual SaveAs files for the Print/Printer/Filament tabs in Slic3r, or in the case of Cura the Print/Filament files they specifically use on PLA and ABS - and exactly what filament they have good luck with? If I missed this info somewhere, please point me to it.
I do find this type of info for other designs - but not specific Wilson info...There are so many variables involved and it would be great to eliminate some of them and start with a “known good” config as a baseline.
The printed parts that came with my kit are very well printed...I’d love to have the config used for slicing them along with the exact Filament used.
